Spencer stepped into the doors of a university based in France. Just coming there after a long time spent at a Quebec university he was suggested to go to France as it would look good in a application. He stepped in the door beside him his newly met friend Darren who had just met on the plane ride over. He was on a similar adventure as him however was sent from a different university. He stepped into the doorway looking around at the lobby. The emblem imprinted onto the base of it, and a hallway on each corner of the room splitting off into certain sections. Darren said “Any idea where our room is.” Spencer looked around left and right before saying “Well, we are in the right building so…..I think the right.” The two headed down the right hallway along with it rooms lined up side by side. Darren said “What room are we looking for? Should be on the first floor right?” Spencer shook his head, “No the second floor. Third apartment apparently.” The two turned around towards the staircase beginning the accent upstairs. Once they got to the floor they turned around to the third apartment. Spencer got a pair of keys from his pocket putting them into the lock, and pushed open the door. The two walked inside. Darren said “Nice place, beds, couch, TV, pretty much everything we need.” Spencer looked around “Yeah, it’s nice. Better get settled if we are going to stay here for more than a year.” Darren replied “Money pays off well” as he leaned back on the couch resting a heavy backpack on the floor.
Spencer turned to the TV, and asked Darren “So, your studying for…what exactly?” Darren looked at him “Couple chemistry classes. You’re here for the programming right? Hope you enjoy it.” Spencer bent over looking down into a small fridge off to the right replying “Hope you don’t blow up the class.” Darren looked at him funny “Doubt we will do any actual working with that stuff.” Spencer nodded agreeing a bit. Darren said “Hey pass me your I-Phone I need to show you a cool trick.” Spencer turned around with a water bottle digging into his pocket. Before he passed his phone he said “Consider this the trust of roommates.” Spencer passed his phone, and Darren caught it. Within seconds Darren had a mischievous look on his face. Spencer walked over, and saw him randomly typing in passwords trying to lock it. He reached down quickly snatching the phone out of his hands. He said “Nice try, you will pay though.” Spencer began walking to the other room as Darren said back chuckling “Well maybe I can pay with an explosion!”
Spencer continued to stay with Darren in the class for many years in the class. The class consisted of a large room hooked up with computers. The teach would averagely tell them how to do certain things, and where to put certain keys where. The class would averagely have tests where they were given a test to determine what they remembered. Spencer, most of the times were neck n neck with another person trying to get the best grade in the class.
Spencer came back to the apartment with food sitting down at the couch. Darren stepped in the room “Your home, so you hear the news?” Spencer looked at him funny “Another one of those aliens or whatever in the university?” Darren “No, funny you mention that though.” Within the past few years with the portal storms France has held a strong government, and kept most of the city of Paris intact of making sure the Xen creatures were disposed of quickly. Darren replied “News is saying there is some odd storms going on, higher rate than normal.” Spencer looked up at him “You think something is going to happen?” Darren replied “Don’t know, I just hope one of those erm…..things don’t appear in our room again.” Spencer chuckled a bit “Yeah that wasn’t too good.” Darren crossed his arms looking out of the window at the night sky as it was about 9:50PM. He began to speak again “Getting late. I got class in the morning so…I’ll see ya.” Darren walked off to the bedroom as Spencer waved goodnight. Spencer looked at the TV growing tired as the night passed. His eyes began to slowly shut before he completely fell asleep.
Spencer woke up to a the news volume quickly going to max speed. He found himself sitting on the couch as he had fallen asleep. The news boomed at near full volume as he panicked looking around. He found the remote he just fell on when he was asleep turning the volume down. He looked at the news as something caught his eye. He turned it back up to about 15 as the news lady said “Recent news shows that there are larger portals opening up in places worldwide! New York, Quebec, India, and a few places have yet to been hit. These large portal storms have been streaking across the sky, and all residents are required to stay indoors. If in the event of a portal storm happening here you will be alerted.” Spencer glared at the television not believing his eyes as Darren walked into the room rubbing his eyes saying “Will you keep it down!? What are you crazy?!” Spencer kept staring at the television as Darren took notice. A emergency broadcast system began to play over, and over. Darren said “What the hell happened?” Spencer explained the situation as Darren replied “Well hell let’s get to the police station. We can’t stay he-“Darren was cut out as a loud boom came across the sky the entire apartment complex shook as the bang sent a cold feeling up each other’s spine. Spencer dived to the window pulling out the curtains as he looked out. A large synthetic and airborne creature came from the sky emitting a loud boom carrying something with long legs. Darren glared at the window “The hell is that thing?!” Spencer’s heart began to pump as he watched the drop ship fly over the university. Whatever it was carrying its legs began to extend as it flew over the housing. Within seconds a loud thud was heard following a loud metallic roar. Darren and Spencer both rushed to the door going to open it.
They burst open the door fellow students doing the same. They heard a loud charging noise following by a loud blast of energy. The blast tore apart a large chunk of the building as the hallway filled with smoke everyone was blown back. Spencer fell on his back as he looked up students ran from the other edge of the hallway as this large strider stood at the hallway crouching down as its main body stared down the hallway. All the students screamed, and ran including Spencer before he looked at it for a brief moment. The creature began emitting smaller pulses of energy slamming into the students behind him. He ran down the hallway towards the window. A pulse of energy flew across his head hitting the person in front of him as he tripped over him hitting the ground. Trying to get up, but students would run over him. He turned around as the strider continuing cutting down the students. It glared at him for a second as Spencer crawled over the man, and into the nearby apartment. He crawled into it behind him he heard the door slam shut. He turned around to see Darren taking his breath as he said “S-sh-shhhh- shit man. What the fuck was that. We need to get out of here.” Spencer nodded as they heard the strider stand up walking around to the other end of the building. While it walked it slammed one of its feet into the university as it began to slowly crumble. The windows shattered as the floor began to come loose. Spencer quickly stood up, and jumped forward as the floor below him gave away to the apartment below. Darren looked below him as the building shook “We got to get out of here so this is our only chance.” Spencer crawled down to the floor below him as Darren followed. They both stepped out of the broken windows into the grass of the university. The strider was across the way starting to rip down the classrooms. Darren and Spencer began to run along the edge of the building as it began to crumble away. Spencer and Darren dived into the car. Spencer was in the back seat, and Darren driving. Spencer looked up to see across the street a smaller version of the strider. The small hunter pulled out two long knives out of one of the students who had attempted to escape. It looked around as Spencer shook Darren. “Come on get that thing started! We need to get the hell out of here.” Darren shook his head fiddling with the keys as the hunter turned around, and stomped its feet on the ground. Spencer looked up at Darren as he braced for the worst.
The hunter ran at full charge towards the car as Darren started it up he peeled away off to the street. As they began to drive off they quickly rushed down the street. It was filled with rubble, and jets flew over trying to take out whatever was invading them. They saw the police station up ahead as Darren got excited he pushed on the peddle. Spencer smiled hoping for safety as a loud shotgun shot screamed through the air. The store beside the police station busted open as a hunter carrying the owner on its knives ran in front of the car. Darren went to yell as the car slammed into the hunter as it flew over the car disabling it. The car began to slide towards the police station as it slammed into the nearby light post with a loud bang.
Eye Glasses
The day awoke with the sun about to come up. Spencer was face down in a cold cell that was once a police station. He opened his eyes moaning a bit, wiping his hand across it face smearing cold dirt across it by mistake. Spencer got the feel of being awake, and sat up. He leaned himself up to a nearby wall noticing his left arm wrapped poorly with some bandages. The bandages seemed a bit bloody, and his arm was sore. Spencer looked around the room seeing it was grey, dull, and the lights had a yellow color to them. He pushed himself up into a standing position. He rubbed the back of his head looking around the room. Soft sobs in the distance could be heard from the rooms away. Spencer walked up to the cell doors wrapping his hands around them. He pressed his face up against the door looking out as all he saw was a long narrow hallway off to his left, and to his right was a single door. He opened his mouth as he began to speak with a dry, and crusty voice "H-hello?" With no answer he turned back around, and continued to look around the room. He looked over to a small table set in the corner. He walked up to it noticing his old glasses set down on the table. He rubbed his eyes once more with the blue shirt he was wearing, and put his glasses on. He blinked as everything seemed much clearer until he thought about what he had just done. He never put on blue clothing this morning, so what was he wearing? Spencer looked down to see himself wearing a slightly big, blue shirt with a white label on the edge which happened to be blank. His pants also happened to be blue, though his shoes seemed like brown dress shoes but of a cheaper quality. His attention turned to the hallway hearing a door creaking open with the sound of boots, and heavy equipment shuffling. He walked up to the door looking down the hallway. A human figure dressed in heavy kevlar, a gas mask, and a stun stick attached to his belt was walking down the hall. He raised an eyebrow with his heart pumping, and worried of what the thing was or where he even was. The unit stepped in-front of his cell looking him up, and down until his vocoder crackled alive saying "Your awake.." as his helmet emitted another beep as he spoke "216, I got another one here for you. I'll move him to the label room for you." The unit reached down to his belt grabbing some keys, and unlocked the door pulling it open motioning for Spencer to follow him. Spencer stepped out of the cell following the unit to a small room which was well light, and seemed like a clean environment. The unit stood back as a second one entered. The door slammed shut with the second unit bearing a red cross armband said "Alrighty, alrighty take your shirt off, and let me get to work." Spencer's eyes widened at the odd request. As the unit was armed with a pistol he would figure he should follow. He took his shirt off handing it over to the unit. The unit snatched it from his hands putting it on the table. The unit began to speak as he walked up to a small computer beginning to type into it "Name?" Spencer began to speak as he replied "Spencer Yancy...” The unit nodded twice before he typed it away at the computer. Within second the computer had entered his name in a profile format. The unit turned around pointing to a measuring meter along the wall saying "Stand against that." Spencer nodded walking to the scale, and the unit typed in his height. The unit spoke once more "Medical conditions....sight problem I presume." Spencer nodded as the unit continued talking "That’s it." The unit slammed on the keyboard with another window popping up on the large screen. On the screen read out certain digits. The unit turned to a machine which began to print out a small card. The card stopped half way. The unit pointed to the wall again "Face it; I want a front face photo, no emotion." Spencer nodded, and he walked over to the wall. A small metallic arm retracted down from the ceiling as it snapped a picture of him. Spencer rubbed his eyes hearing the machine printing out the rest of the card. The unit pulled the card out, handing it to him as he said "Don't lose this." Spencer grabbed the card looking down to it. On the card was a picture of him, five digit number, and his name with the label of Citizen underneath. He looked back up to the unit. He slammed a large hammer down on the shirt. The unit turned around tossing the shirt to the citizen saying "Put that on." Spencer continued to put the shirt on sliding the card into his pocket. The unit reached down to his stun baton. The unit pulled off the baton, and walked to the door saying "Follow me." Spencer began to follow the unit as they reached a large office with two other men dressed in the same clothing as him being interviewed by another unit. The unit who he was following pushed the door open with his foot. Spencer walked out first, the unit coughed with an annoyed tone. Spencer looked around the city as it was modified. He turned around to the unit which was now closing the door, and locking it. Spencer balled his hands up into a fist, shoving them into his pocket looking around the city. He began to wonder what the hell he is supposed to do. He was stranded with, no food, water, supplies, military like things. The last thing he could remember is sitting at home, and everything went black. He thought it could possibly be related to the recent portals opening up around the earth beforehand. He scratched his chin looking around to a big sign which said "CITY 11, it’s Safer Here"
