What would you look for in an ideal HL2RP map? Spread out, concentrated, spread out hubs of RPing, built up, extensive underground, basic nexus, labyrinthine housing..? Any an all suggestions being taken in right now, the more specific the better. I'm a fair hand at Hammer, and I've worked collaboratively at TTT and a few HL2RP maps before. ...Unfortunately the people I work with tend to have to drop the project before we get close to done. I'll be doing this one solo, and before I get to work on it, I'd rather know what people are interested in. My current general idea is an urban environment, a fair sized citizenRP area separated by HAPs, a rooftop/freerunning RP environment, and a huge+disorienting as fuck sewer/bunker/metro system underground for the resistanceRP. Thoughts?

I've always wanted someone to do City 1: New York. I myself was thinking of starting that but was still piecing together the layout. Cordoning off most of the city and only making some buildings, Time Square & the Empire State Building (as the Nexus) accessible. But that's just me, would be cool to do though.
But personally, I prefer a decent amount of wiggle room in RP maps but not so much that finding people is impossible. For instance, the C17 map we're on right now is a good example. The layout is simple and pretty concise making for a good blend of room & RP capability. An example of something that would be a bad example is the C17 Industrial. Sure the map is complete eye candy and looks great, it's just that there are far TOO many nooks and cranny's that work against the server that runs it, unless, of course, you are like a particular community that has 60+ people everyday despite being total shit. *cough* Lemonpunch *cough*
Basically, a Nexus that has only what it needs. Nothing more and nothing less. Meaning: Detainment, interrogation/torture, training rooms (h2h, breaching, shooting range, etc), HCMR, medbay, armory, CA office, and a few extra rooms for the divisions to do with as they will.
UCH with a few floors that have adequate room size, like, maybe the ones from C45. Those are good sized.
Rations - obv, but something small though. Rations doesn't really need a whole other building. It can just be a like, service window from a point in the nexus that leads to the city.
Stores for CWU as well as CWU HQ which should be about the size of one of the stores if even that since, CWU don't do much beyond sell and promote loyalty.
and finally, a P3 that is okay sized so that way webuls can flourish without a big problem of space and anyone who wants to cyber can have their weird fetish fun.

Eh. I think if you're going to model it after a specific city, you'd have to have either been there a lot, or spend a shiiiiitload of time looking up photos and google streetview. New York would be pretty neat though.
Hmm. Yeah, I had considered that. I'm thinking that can be worked around by blocking access to those parts of the city though. The space is there for events and stuff, (although it's admittedly mostly going to waste) but then it wouldn't disperse roleplay too much.
CWU will hopefully be doing a touch more than that in this server, but ye.
Thanks brah. Anyone else?

UCH like C45.
Sewers.
Functioning Nexus with mandatory breaching room and other necessities.
Plaza.
D6 with hidden areas so webuls can hide when getting raided.
Large map with large outskirts.
City and Outlands in same map / server.
Teleport to useful areas of citadel. Synth factories, etc. So Overwatch can spawn there and take an IC dropship / helicopter to city outskirts.
Basically a huge map with ultra optimization and super server hardware for the master race HL2RP server / map.

Personally, I've always wanted something that satisfies each faction, and then makes room for potentially others. Basically working pieces that make you want to stay in an area but at the same time explore and go to others. For example with the City 1 idea I think of larger buildings all jammed together in a good way. Everyone has their niche but it works well.
But if I had it my way meaning I knew what I was doing, had the money etc. I would model something like the Civil Protection series. Each UCA unit would have a patrol partner, Vortigaunts would be second class citizens and live with citizens, and there would be institutions scattered throughout a few blocks. Like if you go and watch the videos there's the trains that pass by, the diner, a forcefield/biolocked church, little parks like in large cities with grass and ponds and natural beauty kind of stuff, and the New York style apartment blocks that have stoops and make up a nice block rather than have 20 rooms in one place.
Also needs room for the APC to drive straight more than 2 seconds before having to turn or hit something because vroom vroom.

To be completely honest I love a disgustingly large map.

Maps that are too large makes it hard as fuck to find people. Like Ineu and Industrial 17 But then again, compact maps make the experience repetitive and boring as all hell. Like C18 and C11. Maps of balanced size that compensate for all factions and interests are what are best. Like C45 and C17.

If you guys want a huge map, you should TRY and wait for source engine two. I'm pretty sure one thing we'll see is much less loading screens, aka huge maps.

C45 was a really nice map. So an ideal map is that. It had everything.
